Notes on the Driver Theory Test Review.
All about the Driver theory test changing
Note on the Driver Theory Test Review.
A comprehensive review of the Driver Theory Test Study material Book and CD-Rom has taken place with a view to improving the content and its effectiveness as a learning tool. The advice of the Dyslexia and Dyspraxia Association were taken into consideration when revising the material. Most of the 1500 questions in the Driver Theory Test 4th Edition have been updated revised or replaced. The revisions include new questions and graphics as well as amended versions of existing questions.
The current material was found to have too many distracters and therefore the study material has been changed to show one single answer and an explanation given as to why the answer is correct. This will help to give a deeper understanding of the reasons for the answer.
The revised Driver Theory Test Study Material should be more user friendly, clear and concise.
It is important to note that there will be no change to the current format of the Driver Theory Test itself, so therefore the test will give the question with a number of possible answers and the candidate will have to choose the correct answer from the choice given. The new Study Material will be published and in book shops from late September and will then be available for purchase from all good bookstores around the country and it will also be available to purchase on line at www.theorytest.ie The new study material will be “The Official Driver Theory Test 5th Edition Book & CD-Rom” The CD in particular will continue to provide ‘Practice Tests’ which simulate the real exam experience and allow candidates to gauge their learning progress. The new training aids will provide a more effective learning experience for candidates as they prepare for the theory test and their long term driving career.
People presenting for the driver theory test prior to the 24th October can still study the old material i.e. The Official Driver Theory Test 4th Edition Book or CD-Rom in order to prepare for the Driver Theory Test as the test itself has not changed.
People presenting for the driver theory test on or after the 24th October must have studied the new study material. i.e. The Official Driver Theory Test 5th Edition Book or CD-Rom.

Q. Will the Driver Theory test be different when the new study material is published?
R. The test will change to suit the new study material for those candidates sitting the test on or after the 24 October 2011. The study material has been changed to help candidates in preparing for the test and to give an explanation as to why the answer is correct. This should help a candidate get a deeper understanding as to why a particular action is required when driving.
Q. Will I get any feedback after the test?
R. Candidates at the end of their exam will regardless of passing or failing be provided, based on their performance, with a list of the categories recommended for further study e.g. Road Signs, Markings and Traffic Regulations, Alert Driving and Consideration for Road Users etc. All of these correspond to the categories listed in the training Material in order to facilitate revision or help improve overall skills.
Q. Why do you not give out the exact questions that are answered wrong?
R. Merely giving details of incorrect answers would not be in the best interest of promoting learning in terms of the theory test.
